Tom Morello
“I was so inspired by what I saw in Madison,” Morello told Pop & Hiss this week. “It seems very much like we’re at an important crossroad, and that this movmvent was not just about stopping some bad legislation, but possibly harnessing the energy of 100,000 to 150,000 people who were in the streets and want to put some teeth back in the labor movement in the U.S.”
Morello returned from the February rally in Madison and wrote “Union Town” and two other originals — “A Wall Against the Wind” and “Which Side Are You On?” — and recorded the whole thing over a period of just four days.” – Randy Lewis LA Times- Entertainment April 28,2011
Both “Union Town” and “Which Side are You On” are featured in WAW thanks to the kind generosity and support of Tom Morello.

Which Side Are You On?
“On my way out, I was actually “bro-ing down” with some cops… AT A PROTEST. Quite new for me. The police were union men themselves, and wholly supportive of the protesters, and I thought, “This is a strange and new, exciting day indeed when the police are delivering bratwurst to the students occupying the State Capitol and high-fiving The Nightwatchman.” Rolling Stone FEBRUARY 25, 2011 5:25 PM ET

Liam Gerner:
‘I wrote the song Madison while on tour in the USA Feb – August 2011. I was opening up for Ryan Bingham and we had spent the few weeks before our Madison concert on the tour bus following the Wisconsin protests on the news. It felt different from the any protest id been too, the police were welcoming, these were people who didn’t usually protest out there marching, the middle class essentially. It was very moving. After Ryan and I walked around the capital building and met with some of the locals heard their stories, how they had been sleeping for weeks in the capital building then going to work to teach each day, all the while looking after their families, they had not stop protesting. I went and wrote this song ‘Madison’ that afternoon and performed it in his concert that night at the Majestic Theatre.”
This is the original recording of “Madison”.
